Dr. L. Brett Baker, DMA, ARCM, is a distinguished trombone soloist, educator, and conductor, regarded as one of Europe’s leading brass performers. As the Sales Director for Denis Wick & Alliance Products and an Artist for Michael Rath Brass Instruments, Brett blends his extensive performance career with a commitment to supporting the brass community. He is currently the Solo Trombone for the Cory Band.
Brett’s career spans numerous prestigious roles, including his former position as Principal Trombone of the world-renowned Black Dyke Band. He has performed as a soloist with top brass ensembles globally and has appeared on over 100 recordings, making him one of the most recorded brass soloists in his genre. With a passion for commissioning new works, he has been involved in more than 100 solo commissions, enhancing the trombone’s repertoire.
In addition to his performing and teaching, Brett is an influential figure in the brass world. He is Chair of the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators and has held leadership roles within the British Trombone Society and the International Trombone Association (ITA). He has also conducted and adjudicated at major events internationally, including the International Trombone Festival and the Trombonanza Festival in Argentina.
Brett’s research interests include trombone history, performance psychology, and instrument design. His scholarly contributions and commitment to advancing the trombone have earned him the ITA’s ‘President’s Award’ in 2020. A passionate mentor and clinician, Brett’s teaching legacy is as rich as his performance career, having inspired students worldwide at events like the Singapore Low Brass Festivals and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. |
