Trombonist Reggie Watkins was born August 24, 1971 in Wheeling WV. He played piano, trumpet, and tuba before attending West Virginia University for jazz performance studies. Reggie is a long time Pittsburgh resident and has toured the world extensively. In 1999, Watkins joined the legendary trumpeter Maynard Ferguson. During his tenure with Ferguson, Watkins became arranger and musical director and played on three of the jazz trumpeters albums: MF Horn VI Live at Ronnie Scotts, Swingin for Schuur and Big City Rhythms.
Watkins was selected as a semi-finalist for the 2003 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition and in 2004 he recorded his first album as a leader titled A-List as part of the Maynard Ferguson Presents Series. Watkins other albums as leader are One For Miles One For Maynard and his recent 2016 release Avid Admirer, The Jimmy Knepper Project
In 2008 Watkins joined the band of Grammy winner Jason Mraz to tour the world an record extensively. Watkins is the founder of nationally touring/recording horn section The Steeltown Horns and the Movemakers Band. |
